Best Practice #1 — Explain It
Select a topic—like a scientific law or natural phenomenon—to depict in one comic panel. Prepare an instruction panel with a suitable background, a character with a speech bubble, and a clear prompt. Share the comic prompt with students, who will remix it to create their explanation. See the handout for instructions, activity variations, and differentiation strategies.

Best Practice #2 — Pick It
Select or remix a comic from a story starter or lesson idea, editing it to include one “false” panel for students to identify and correct. Guide students to pinpoint the inaccurate panel and rewrite it to reflect accurate information, using the task as a knowledge check and discussion starter. Best Practice #3 — Summarize It
Choose a complex science process or concept and create (or find) a comic that demonstrates it, with placehholder speech bubbles and captions. Have students replace the placeholder text with accurate explanations, incorporating all provided vocabulary terms.
